T-Mobile Poland wins project for Katowice connected water meters

T-Mobile Poland has won a tender at the Katowice-based water management company Katowickie Wodociagi. The operator will provide connections for 24,000 remote water meters, including IoT modules and services. Katowickie Wodociagi has secured PLN 8.993 million EU funding for the project, and the project cost is estimated at PLN 12.855 million. The water metering system will be connected over the NB-IoT network.

The government emphasized that an integrated national framework is essential to balance digital opportunity with robust child protection.

Megafon launches own eSIM router

Russian operator Megafon has developed its own mobile router, which works with a digital eSIM profile, reports Forbes.ru. The solution enables customers to activate mobile internet services remotely. It is a co-branded device from Megafon and its subsidiary Yota.The device includes a 4,000 mAh battery, supports both eSIMs and conventional SIMs, and can provide a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 32 devices over the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.

Kaspersky Labs has registered with Germany's Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) as a "very important entity" under the German implementation of the EU's NIS2 directive. M.Video reports soaring sales on e-commerce marketplace

Russian mobile and electronics retail chain M.Video said that turnover on its online marketplace totaled RUB 14.6 billion in January to May. The figure soared 303 percent year on year, with turnover exceeding sales in all of 2025, which amounted to RUB 14.1 billion. The retailer attributed the growth to more products and more sellers, attracting more shoppers. Sales of digital equipment jumped more than 11-fold year-on-year in the five months.

Amazon signs German wind power contract with Skyborn Renewables

Amazon has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Skyborn Renewables to fund the construction of an offshore wind park on the Baltic Sea and continue efforts to achieve climate neutrality. The Gennaker offshore wind park will be the largest in the German Baltic Sea with a total capacity of up to 976.5 MW. Construction work is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2026, following the close of financing by Skyborn, and the wind farm is expected to start operations by the end of 2028.

Comporium, a regional US provider active in South and North Carolina, has inked an expanded agreement with Ribbon Communications to implement cloud-based IP voice infrastructure. Average spend on Spanish convergent packages down to EUR 38 in Q4

The average amount spent by Spanish households on convergent packages fell sharply in the last three months of 2025, according to the latest survey conducted by communications regulator CNMC. The monthly spend on a convergent package with fixed and mobile telephony plus broadband access (without pay-TV) came to EUR 38.3 a month in the final quarter of 2025, down sharply from EUR 40.3 a year earlier.

UK payment fraud losses reach GBP 1.28 billion in 2025 - UK Finance

Criminals stole GBP 1.28 billion through payment fraud in the UK in 2025, up 4 percent from 2024, according to the latest Annual Fraud Report from UK Finance. Most authorised push payment (APP) fraud cases originate online (66%) or through telecoms networks (17%) - leading UK Finance to call for tougher obligations on companies operating in these sectors.

Hyperoptic sees network traffic spikes during World Cup games

UK fibre altnet Hyperoptic said some of the highest network traffic spikes on its network so far in June has been driven by fans watching 2026 FIFA World Cup games. It recorded peal network traffic around 10 percent higher than a standard Wednesday evening (around 1.4 Tbps) during the open game of the competition. During England's first game on Wednesday 17 June, traffic peaked at around 1.6 Tbps (around 15% higher than typical early-June Wednesday evening).

Philippines operator Smart Communications has deployed a mobile site in the municipality of San Vicente, Palawan, to expand internet access across remote communities. The new tower is also expected to boost the government's Bayanihan SIM initiative, which provides free SIMs with mobile data to Filipinos in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs) like San Vicente, which is located around 500 km southwest of Manila.

Accenture bulks up cybersecurity division with multiple acquisitions

Accenture is acquiring a majority stake in one business and buying two more companies outright in a bid to shore up its USD 10 billion cybersecurity business. The US firm is buying the entire share capital in runZero, which specialises in cyber risk management, and NetRise, a provider of cybersecurity tools for analysing and safeguarding software components. Both NetRise and runZero are based in Austin, Texas.

FuboTV live streams games from BIG3 3-on-3 basketball league

FuboTV has signed an agreement with BIG3, worldwide 3-on-3 basketball league, to stream the 2026 season live on the Fubo Sports Network FAST channel. From 20 June, FuboTV will stream 16 live games for the 9th season of the league, with two games streamed per week. Fubo Sports Network will also become home for BIG3s library of archived games telecasts from seasons 6-8.

Iliad lands EUR 10 bln financing, earns Moody's upgrade

France's Iliad has secured a total of EUR 10 billion in financing within the space of a few days, resulting in an upgrade from rating agency Moody's. The amount raised includes EUR 6.5 billion to support its proposed acquisition of SFR combined with the refinancing of EUR 3.5 billion in existing bank facilities backed by 31 international lenders. Iliad said the refinancing serves to strengthen its capital structure, boost liquidity and extend the maturity of key debt instruments.

Equinix is working with Irish state-owned electricity company ESB and clean energy company GeoPura to test a hydrogen power solution at its Dublin data centre. This involves the deployment of a Hydrogen Power Unit for data centre critical back-up systems, at a time when the Irish electricity network is struggling to meet demands from data centres in the Dublin metropolitan area.
